So, I tell myself periodically that all athletes take a hiatus at one point or another. Like the end of the season, or after they "retire" from one sport before beginning the next, or when it's just time to hang them up. I get contemplative like this whenever I am in the midst of a hiatus, or what I call my lazy periods, because i am a hopeless rationalizer. The reason that this is all rationalization is because nowhere in the aforementioned list is a hiatus that takes place mere weeks before an athlete's first big test of the season. Which is precisely when this current lazy period is taking place. Theoretically, I am embarking on my first race of the season in roughly 5 weeks. Five weeks to go from zero to 70.3. To my thinking that's roughly approximating a Toyota Prius drag racing a lamborghini, but here I go. I plan on checking in here frequently over the next five weeks, so maybe, just maybe, I can finish the Lake Anna half ironman. If anybody else has that race on their calendar, give a shout to anybody you see huffing and puffing near the back of the line, it's much appreciated. |
