Race day!  Long day.  3 eggs, pecan rolls, 2 bananas, ensure, coffee.  Got nervous stomach walking to race, but calmed after that.  Had plenty of time to get ready.  Started middle of race start.  Water warm and calm.  Usual melee at the beginning, but settled down, told myself to calm down.  Got crowded at the turns but otherwise was nice.  Transition went well, took my time.  Course really fun.  Out on a bike trail then on to the road and the hills.  The crowds at Verona and on the steep hills were great.  Started nutrition with powerbar, had some gu, was overhydrated and stopped to pee once each loop.  Peanut butter sandwich in special needs and mustard/onion pretzels.  Stomach felt a little full at times, but then hunger set in and ate somemore.  Hills were definately harder on second loop, but it actually felt good to stand up and peddle up hill.  Seemed like was losing power on the way back to town.  The start of the run didn't feel good, legs were tired.  Knew it was going to be a long day.  No 4 hr marathon.  So just walked aid stations and hills.  Fun to go thru the stadium and run over by the lake and thru campus.   The last 6 miles hurt but ran more continuously, and picked it up for the end.  Held up the happy birthday sign and Mike Reilly said Happy Birthday Catie over the loud speaker!  And she saw it too.  Cool.  We went back to watch the amazing energy of the finish and saw Frank Ferrar finish with 3 mins to spare then to bed.  All in all a really good day.
