DARE CRIT
Sunday, February 25, 2007

Did my 1st Crit today. Raced in the 30+ 4/5 catagory and did okay. With a full field of 75, I was 30th. I got out of the way at the end for the sprinters; there had already been two crashes and I didn't want to leave my skin on the pavement. One one the guys who crashed went into my rear wheel. Fortunately, the mtb skill skept me up. When the race was done, I saw that his wheel had melted the slip cover to my shoe. There was an imprint of his tire, followed by the melted spot. Whew...

Did the TT with road rash. As if there's not enough suffering going on already! Your'e laying across the top tube in an unatural position, your 'boys' are numb because of the pressure, and your ass is hurting from doing an imitation of cheese going across a grater...

I finished 6/15 in Cat 5. More importantly, I was only 40 seconds back from my training partner, who is a very good time trialist. And, on a longer course to boot. Fiesta Island TT coming up!

Here's a photo of me(the overly large one) and Phil (aka the blade) after the race; dashing in our team kit...

OUCH!!!

Doing some time trial work yesterday when a lady passed me in her car. She then hit her turn signal and turned to the right. Gave me enough time to lay it down at about 25 mph. Ruined my right sock, bike shorts, and right glove. Fortunatley, it was cold, so I had polartec on top. Ground down my derailleur, bar wrap, carbon brake level, and shifters. Overall, not too bad on the equipment.

For the body; gouged the ankle, got a plate sized rash on my calf, got a plate sized bruise and rash on my hip, and my muscles are sore today!

For those asking, the lady stopped and was very helpful. Rules of the road here in CA put me at fault, so I didn't even bother bitching. Also, a guy came out of his house and let me use his bathroom to clean the wounds, hit them with peroxide, and get some antibiotic on them. Even offered to give me a ride home. Samaritan's are not gone!

Still going to try to race on Sunday. We'll see.
