Ultramarathon under the belt! |

Well, I did it! A year in the making, and I completed the 100km ultramarathon in 17 hours and 30 mins, certainly no record, but considering the tough terrain and the altitude, was not a bad effort. My biggest concern was the hills, and then the mental toughness needed to keep going (especially after the 42k aid station, which was also the marathon distance finish line!). |

SO here we are, 4 weeks to go before the Ultra 100k in Mongolia. Big training run coming up on Saturday - 12 hours. Last effort was 7 hours and I only managed 42k, though it was hot, humid, and on rough sandy and narrow rocky trail. I need to do at least 60k on Saturday. Mentally that is important.New shoes seems good, now all that remains is to find somewhere to run for 12 hours in Phuket!

Countdown to first marathon! |

Well folks, I really never thought I'd be in a position to be running a marathon, and I certainly didn't expect I'd be running one in Thailand; I guess thought if I ever did it would be a high profile event like London. I'm amazed how quickly I've improved my fitness, and particularly my endurance. I still have a long way to go before I'm close to being ready for the 100k Mongolia Sunrise to Sunset race (my fitness goal for 2008), but I feel good about next week's marathon - which is a relief because I've been down with a touch of a cold this week which I thought might put me out of action. But, rest, and copious amounts of hot lemon juice with honey and ginger has brought me back to life. Let's see I do next week. No time goal, but want to try and finish with at least a hint of a smile!
