Second cycle
Monday, March 5, 2007

Tomorrow starts my second 8-week training cycle with Endurance.  I've had the most dramatic gains from a mere 8 weeks alone.  Dropped 10 pounds, a difficult last few pounds at that.  Climbing better on the bike and recovering much quicker on hard road rides.  I'm inspired.

First retest-????
Tuesday, February 20, 2007

I had my first retest today at 2:00 p.m.  The results were confusing and I don't understand baseline data from this new data, given that a new type of testing profile was done.  I also lost 8 pounds and inches but my body fat was essentially the same.  I have always thought caliper testing inferior to hydrostatic.  We'll see.  Amgen was fantastic, the Endurance SF site is awesome and going to be a huge draw for folks.  Start workouts at my new levels tonight, YIKES.  I also have my first official Crit race on Saturday.  Be safe, have fun.

Night before 2007 Early Birds

I"m doing nursing homework and thinking about the fun tomorrow a.m. in Fremont.  I'll be on the road with other new racing women at 9:30 a.m. as our "mentor" takes us through some basics related to how to be a safe rider in a pack of newbies.  It will be cold, it will be windy, and it will be fun!  Afterward I'll head up the road to Hayward to start day two of clinicals at Kaiser, 2 p.m. sharp.

Meeting Laura Charameda
Thursday, January 4, 2007

What a treat.  To have Laura agree to be my coach and take on such an emotional athlete.  I think I'm getting the better part of this deal.  We met today for our official start of coaching and the 2007 road racing season.  I'm looking forward to learning all new stuff about women's cycling, including training, resting, eating, racing, psychology, and equipment.  She asked me a ton of questions about my past, present and future.  The other bonus is that she's a few years younger than I am but in her forties, she understands a women's body and a premenopausal body.  Again, I've got a good deal with her.  I've asked around and she has a very strong reputation as an athlete, coach, and community leader.  She heads a nonprofit children's cycling team called Team Swift out of Santa Rosa.  Her boyfriend is team director for BMC in Marin.
