So last year it was a motorcycle accident that derailed me, now it's a slipped disk! Well I guess it's my year to learn how to swim and make it a year to swim. So instead of tossing in the towel, I got a little help from the Greenich Tri Club and found two partners to do the other legs of the tri's I signed up for.
Sleepy Hollow, NY was terrific. Greenwich Tri Club's own volunteer and coach, Joanne Dondero, organized great teams of athletes and coached her own clients. For the most of us it was a first time TRI event. Lots of excitement and butterflies that come with that. I almost bailed on the second solid kick to my recently mended wrist (which has 11 screws) and after a serious look about zeroed in on an open space and took off. I did the 1/2 mile leg in 11 + min. I was thrilled just to have participated and completed.
A big thank you to Tri coach Peter Berrisford for keeping me going when it got tough mentally as well as physically. And a big thank you to Joanne for helping the dream come true via a relay team. I'm hooked and looking to get back to biking and running by fall. In the meantime, It's so much fun swimming, and participating with everyone. Can't wait for the Greenwich Tri on Aug 2nd. |
